“The Barber Hub” by AREA Academy

In support of The Jack Reed Foundation and in collaboration with The Barber Academy, Dyson & Motion

AREA Academy & The Jack Reed Foundation have joined forces and this year at Hair Festival they will be presenting “The Barber Hub” with the aim of spreading awareness around collaboration & connection.

AREA Academy is an up-skilling facility based in Melbourne. AREA pride themselves on tailor-made educational experiences based around personal development. What makes AREA unique in the field of education is their unconventional, conscious and holistic approach to hair education. They are pushing the boundaries within men’s hair to blur the lines between hairdressing & modern barbering. The award-winning team contains current x2 Barber of The Year + FAME Team member, Leigh Winsor and Eoin McCarthy, Dyson’s first ever Ambassador in the men’s hair space.

AREA have a long standing relationship with The Jack Reed Foundation which is a beautiful example of how collaborative relationships can create opportunities for people less fortunate. They have run a series of events over the past two years called “RE:CONNECT” to help raise funds & awareness around the initiatives of the foundation.

The Jack Reed Foundation are an organisation that are creating opportunities for life transformation. Through their “99 New Beginnings” initiative, they are giving underprivileged youth from disadvantaged area’s a life changing opportunity at a fully-funded apprenticeship. Giving them a sustainable pathway into our industry where they wouldn’t have had the chance before.

The initial idea was that they would train the students from on-site shipping containers in Brisbane but their biggest obstacle was finding someone to teach and run the container as a barbershop. This is where even more collaboration kicked in. Eoin from AREA had the idea to connect The Jack Reed Foundation with The Barber Academy and a new relationship was formed. The Barber Academy will now be taking on the students & training them by giving them a scholarship pathway to a Certificate III in Barbering.

At Hair Festival, the trio want to highlight this relationship with the support of Dyson & Motion. There will be LIVE haircutting demo’s happening all weekend as well as a super raffle to much needed funds to support the next generation.

The Barber Hub will be a place to “RE:CONNECT – A place to Network, Socialise & Learn!”

The team at AREA just announced an exciting project called “NEXT GEN” which will give the next generation of young and ambitious stylists a platform to dive into the world of stage work and education. This will be taking place at “The Barber Hub” – for all information on this please visit their Instagram page & hit the link in their bio.
