Our first encounter with Brian was around 2 years ago when we spotted a barbershop on Rose Bay’s bustling New South Head Road. Walking past, we were greeted by Brian’s signature  smile and an invitation to come in to say hello. Barbers At The Bay is best described as old school, with the familiar smell of bay rum drifting throughout the shop.

The vibe is welcoming and there is the sound of laughter as jokes are said all while locals greet and are been greeted. Brian runs a no-fuss, highly-skilled and competent salon that is as humble as the original cabinetry they purchased back in 2004. “I am a fourth generation barber. Back in the days, our tools were limited- but the styles were not. I am still very fond of my corded Wahls, however, my choice of scissors are Osaka. I use a pair of Osaka YCs for my everyday cuts and Osaka Sakuras for premium texturising work.”

Brian isn’t the only one in the family who is in the hair game, with his wife operating her own salon Hair by Dora K down the road and his son Khalil learning the barber trade and following the family footsteps.  We were fortunate enough to equip Khalil with his first pair of barbering scissors, the Osaka Zeta Lefties ! As scissor specialists, it is very important for us to be able to recommend the most suitable pair of scissors, especially for beginners to ensure maximum comfort from the get go.

“We are constantly in contact with Leonie from Osaka Scissors, our go to person for the right scissor and sharpening services”.

We are blessed to have Brian and his family supporting the brand during its early developments in Australia!
